Norway 2009

Sopptember 2009 I went to Sandefjord in Vestfold, Norway. Sopptember? Yes, sopptember because there are lots of mushrooms (norwegian: sopp) out in the woods in september. There had been lots of chanterelles. And what is better than a day of strolling through the woods? Yes a day of strolling trough the woods with a delicious ending. There where still some blueberries and mountain cranberries there, too.

You might also enjoy hikes along the coast on the so called kyststien (coastal trail). The trail is well marked so you hardly can get lost. But you also can get some information in one of the local tourist information center in the area e.g. Sandefjord or Tønsberg.

The Kyststien leads from one beautyfull bay to another even better bay. So do not forget to take some coffe and bakery with you and have a nice picnic whilst enyoing the seaview. The local bakeries have various delicious speciallieties, all verry sweet and tasty. Just ask for some "Kringler" or "Wienerbrød". Leaving the Trail to climb up the hills is also nice but you'd better not afraid of hieights and keep in mind that you have to go down again later.

Another highlight in Sandfjord surely is the viking ship Gaia. This year I discovered that there also is the ship Åsa. In summer the gaia crew offers sailing or rowing tours. For more Informations check out my link list. You can discover lots of Viking related places around Vestfold. Gaia is built as copy of the Gogstadship which was found under the Gokstadhill near Sandefjord. The original now lies in the Vikingshipmuseum in Oslo. Explore also Kaupang which formerly has been a viking trading post or on of the many burial mounts or stone circles.

  • Hedrum Bygdetun
  • Hvalfangstmonument, Sandefjord
  • Sandefjordsfjord
  • Tønsberg
  • lovely fly agarics
  • delicious chanterelles
  • Natholmen
  • Viking Ship Åsa

France 2009

On our anually ju-jutsu club tour this year we went to France, to Alsace to be precise. We got us a nice House in La Vancelle, close to the forrest and a the remains of the Chateau du Frankenbourg. Of course some of us took the cance to explore the ruins and the "long" walk trough the forrest was rewarded with a nice view.

Our visit to the market in Selestat was not quite what we expected. There were some typical grocery marked stands but manly cheap clothes and other useless stuff. The church in Selestat is really nice thow. Later on our way back we bought some typical Gugelhoupf, hmmmm delicious.

Also nearby to our house is the Haut-Koenigsbourg and the "Montagne des Singes" located which we also visited.
